Empathic God (Love Nation Day 12)

“Now when Mary came to where Jesus was and saw Him, she fell at His feet, saying to Him, ‘Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died.’ When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come with her also weeping, He was deeply moved in His spirit and greatly troubled. And He said, ‘Where have you laid him?’ They said to Him, ‘Lord, come and see.’ Jesus wept.” – John 11:32-35

Why did Jesus weep at the tomb of Lazarus? Many have speculated. In fact speculation began that very moment. The Bible says, “Jesus wept. So the Jews said, ‘See how He loved him! But some of them said, ‘Could not He who opened the eyes of the blind man also have kept this man from dying?’” – John 11:35-37 But what good is the speculation? Would it help to know that Jesus wept because of our doubts. Would it be beneficial to know that Jesus wept because He loves us? Could we gain from the idea that Jesus wept because He wants us to see our future in Him? Yes! All of those things tell us something of Jesus. The Bible doesn’t say why exactly Jesus wept, except to say that He was moved. And He still is moved. It was a sad moment that accompanied that party at Lazarus’ tomb. And there are sad moments somewhere everyday. And Jesus wept. He wept because of the sadness. He’s an empathetic God. He’s a caring God. He empathizes with you. He cares about you. Remember the two sparrows? They are worth very little to us. But the Bible says not one sparrow will fall without Him seeing. And so how much more will He see you? He’s counted every hair on your head, the Bible says. He’s a caring God. He sees you and feels your pain. And so, “Jesus wept.” – John 11:35

Today… Know that He cares,
Jake
