A Project to Inspire Love
Love Nation is a project meant to inspire a nation (wherever we may be) of people living to love others. Jesus said, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.” – John 13:34 (ESV) Do we take His command seriously? To live by it is maybe the hardest thing we’ll ever attempt. But we must. While we will never be perfect in this life, we must do what we can with what we have. To do that we need to be a team. A nation of people together following Jesus’ lead. That’s what Jesus’ Church is and it’s what we need to be. But we need inspiration. Can we be inspirations of love to one another. I pray so. I pray we become a Nation of Love for this world. I believe that is what Christ commissioned us to be. “And he said to them, ‘Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.'” – Mark 16:15 (ESV) The gospel is the good news of Christ! So lets go and tell of Christ’s love.
Welcome to Love Nation 2016
1 February, 2016 (Day 1)
Last February I started a project I call, “Love Nation.” It’s meant to be a reminder of what the most important things in life are, and what they’re based on. That being love. I chose February simply because it’s the month of Valentine’s. A day which we all know is used to celebrate love. During this month I will do my best to write a short message every weekday to inspire us to live a life of love. Whatever that means. Hopefully we’ll find out more along the way.
This month/year I want to use these messages to speak specifically about how individuals chose love at certain moments in their life and how those decisions made a difference in the world. Love is hard to talk about. Especially for a guy. And I’m not exception. Love is one of those things that makes us feel vulnerable. And yet it is a requirement for a healthy life. We all know how hard it is to tell someone we love them for the first time. It puts us out there to be humiliated by rejection. Why do we even do it? We all know how hard it is to love someone we don’t even know. It takes a sacrifice to spend our time on something that might not even pay us back. Why do it? If you’re a parent you know how much patience it takes to love your child well. So many hopes are bundled up in that child. Why?
Love is THE thing, THE force that binds our lives and this world together. There is a constant wedge being driven between everything. That is for sure. But love is the thing that, for sure, is resisting that wedge as well. However, I don’t want to make the mistake of claiming along with the Beatles, “All You Need is Love.” Because not every love is equal. And sometimes we’re deceived by “imitation” love. Rather it’s the source of ultimate love that is our ultimate need. Over the next month I look forward to exploring that source and the difference love has made throughout time and place because of its Ultimate Source.
Thank you for joining me and welcome to Love Nation 2016. I look forward to being here tomorrow to share our first story of love. Perhaps we can use it to continue it’s effect in our lives, and maybe the world. I’ll leave you with a quote you’ve probably heard a few times this year already. “I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.” – Martin Luther King Jr.
See you tomorrow and may God bless you,
